thread storage

My husband installed those IKEA "Strippa" shelves for me yesterday, and I had so much fun organizing all my thread by size and color. I honestly thought I didn't have enough thread to fill these up. Ha!

It didn't help that I picked up 9 of those ginormous spools on the top shelf at a flea market yesterday. They were only 50 cents each! (And the seller was dressed in a clown outfit and made a little pink balloon poodle for my daughter....) Will I ever use them? Maybe not, but they're kinda cool just to look at anyway!

  1. gosh, those shelfs look fabulous with all that thread on it. I always find storing thread to be a hassle, but to put it on display is genius!!

  4. Great organization, looks so good. I have had a few of those huge spools, they take a long, long time to use but I loved having them and keep my eyes open for more.

  5. Great organisation and lovely colour sorting. I did have a look at my own 'jumble' on seeing this... but it'll have to stay in the bag.. no wall space left !!

  6. Hey cool ideas everyone. My problem here is that every time i see someone elses ideas I then want to rush in and copy them myself. haha. My DH put shelves along two walls in my sewing room. nothing fancy about the storage i just put my wooden thread stands on it. But also wanted to comment on the large spools of thread. I use serger thread in colors like white black red etc in my bobbins. The thread is consistent and I of course get a lot of use from one spool of the thread. Thats my two cents worth. use those large spools in bobbins. If you can. I realize some machines are picky but ive been pretty lucky so far, mine dont mind. Candy

  7. I have some of those but never thought of thread. I tried ball jars with stuff in them = because I love blue ball jars and have so many, but they were slightly too wide to fit - so I just put pictures on them - you've given me a great idea. I have not forgotten about our fabric swap - if you still have any of those Ikea duvet scraps left. I have been crazy busy with the kids being home, the lake and now our new puppy this summer - I have not had much time for sewing of any variety. I will get back with you on it in September when life settles down a little if that is ok with you. If you use or get rid of them in the meantime - no big deal.
